MakiChalle 2025 Grand Prix
眞杉 雛多
roly-poly Organics株式会社
Circular fertilizer business using pill bugs. Based in Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City. Founded July 2024.
“What made me happiest was being 'recognized.' Since founding the company, I had been working alone while carrying anxiety and doubt about my choices. Being recognized and evaluated by people outside the company who didn't know me at all gave me the conviction and confidence to push forward on my path. People from various countries and regions gathered, and I strongly felt how much each of them was thinking about Japan and the world from many different perspectives.”

Midwest Composites Sdn.Bhd.
Based in Seremban, Malaysia. Eco-friendly composite materials business converting biomass discarded in tea production into components. Founded 2020.
“It all started when we met the MakiChalle organizing committee at a global startup event held in Vietnam. They invited us, saying MakiChalle would be a stepping stone for entering the Japanese market. We thought the relaxed and friendly environment would be an ideal gateway to enter the Japanese market. Winning the top prize at a Japanese contest is highly valued by the Malaysian government and market, and I am confident it will receive similar recognition across Southeast Asia.”

MakiChalle 2025 Runner-up
横山 卓哉
株式会社Nebraska
Digitail store business for physical retail. Based in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Founded 2021.
“Our solution can contribute to regions where businesses are disappearing due to labor shortages and low profitability. Makinohara also faces the social challenge of stores closing due to such negative factors, and we applied because our solution is relevant to this problem. I'm genuinely happy about winning. But at the same time, I feel we can't just stop at receiving the award. The real challenge starts now — we need to deliver results.”

MakiChalle 2024 Runner-up
本山 勝寛
株式会社4kiz
Safe SNS platform for children under 15. Based in Shibuya, Tokyo. Founded 2021.
“This service was born from my own parenting experience. All existing social media platforms require users to be 13 or older, and my then-11-year-old daughter couldn't create an account. I decided to build a safe SNS platform where children can connect with peace of mind. While I was aiming for the Grand Prize and feel some regret, I'm grateful to have been selected.”

MakiChalle 2025 Mayor's Special Award
西條 康介
株式会社SUN Reality
Regional co-creation educational facility proposal through Education x DX. Based in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Founded 2020.
“The main reason was that I deeply resonated with the contest's vision of 'supporting new businesses born from local communities.' It turned out that Ms. Makiko Noda, who served as a special judge, was actually a senior colleague from my venture company days. Her encouragement to 'give it a try' ultimately pushed me to participate. Despite our proposal being at a stage without concrete results or tangible form, I'm truly grateful that they empathized with our vision and awarded us this prize.”

MakiChalle 2025 Mayor's Special Award
鳴海 禎造
glafit株式会社
Mobility, tourism, and disaster response using electric bikes. Based in Wakayama City. Founded 2017.
“Makinohara is located on the sea side of Shizuoka Airport and bullet train stations, making access quite challenging. We're currently rolling out 'WANDERIDE' nationwide — an activity where you explore a town's charms by electric bike. We wanted to offer this in Makinohara too. An even more important part of our proposal was disaster response. If electric bikes are widespread throughout the city, local governments can unlock all vehicles with a single button during disasters.”

森本 竜英
モルゲンロット株式会社
Container-type data center business using green energy. Based in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Founded 2019.
“What surprised me first was how high the level of participating companies was. Everyone at MakiChalle seemed to have solid, well-thought-out ideas. Beyond the contest itself, they introduced startup financing schemes and provided networking opportunities, making it a uniquely valuable pitch contest. ZERO G TEC Co., Ltd.
Ergonomic product development. Based in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Founded 2021.
“The opportunity came quite by chance — a consultant who was supporting us at the time introduced us to MakiChalle. We also wanted to increase our visibility in Japan. It felt less like a competition and more like a festival everyone enjoys together. The judges evaluated not just the numbers, but the philosophy and human story behind them. What made me happiest was having my ideas and products objectively recognized.”

MakiChalle 2025 SVSA Award
三浦 弘平
株式会社dozo
Craft tea cocktail kit business using Japanese tea. Based in Shizuoka City. Founded 2023.
“Honestly, the prize money was initially attractive (laughs), but seriously, I wanted to deepen our connection with Makinohara — one of Japan's premier tea-producing regions. Makinohara is a major tea production area with diverse farmers crafting wonderful teas. If we're going to compete globally using Shizuoka tea, Makinohara's tea leaves are indispensable. The response from local people regarding MakiChalle was on a completely different level compared to other contests — many people reached out saying 'great job at MakiChalle!' and I can feel the local expectations.”

名波

“Makinohara's vacancy rate exceeds the national average, so we proposed town development that actively utilizes vacant houses, aiming to make Makinohara 'the town with Japan's lowest vacancy rate.' Receiving this award for work I had been doing individually gave me confidence that my efforts were on the right track. Banks and government officials who learned about us through MakiChalle began reaching out about funding, which felt like a major step forward for the company.”

Circular business model using regional waste. Based in Ota, Tokyo. Founded 2021.
“In Makinohara, how to circulate regional waste is a key challenge. We believed it was important to complete the entire process of creating value-added products within the region.
